So far Xiaomi has been doing really well in the Indian market. India has become a major target for the company and they are now planning to open a manufacturing facility in the country.
Manu Jain, Xiaomi’s India head, told Wall Street Journal:
We always thought that our manufacturing would be based out of China. But India is beginning to become so important for us that we started to think whether we should set up our own manufacturing.
The company’s legal team is reportedly studying all the regulatory hurdles related to opening a plant in the country. According to Jain, it will take at least six months before they can make a decision about opening the facility. But setting up a factory could help Xiaomi to meet the increasing demand for their devices in India. So far they have sold more than 500,000 devices in the country and most of the flash sales that happened on Flipkart ended in less than five seconds.
