What was a Cadillac, wearing Michigan plates doing in good old Germany? Those who came across this strange sight in BMW-land would have wondered the same. Well, the car happened to be a prototype of the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, and, was spotted, and spied, near the famed Nürburgring.
The 2016 ATS-V is touted as a competitor to the BMW M4 Coupe, and this is perhaps why Cadillac decided to do some shake-downs at the ’Ring to let the competition know that a hot one is on its way from the Americas. Hopefully, the ATS-V will live up to the billing.
Despite the camouflage, it was easy to spot the aggressive lines on the ATS-V, which also sports a different front grille and bigger front bumper. The aggressiveness flows down through the sides too, with more aero side skirts and a big rear spoiler. Sporty indeed.
Sources say that the sporty nature is not just skin deep. The ATS-V apparently comes with a high-performance braking system, a sportier suspension and a quad exhaust arrangement, which gives it a very macho tone.
Reports suggest the Cadillac ATS-V Coupe will come with a 3.2-liter V6 engine capable of giving out 500+ bhp (373 kW). But there are also rumors that it will come with a twin-turbo V6 3.6-liter generating 425 bhp (317 kW). There are talks about an ATS-V Plus V8 model that will be the range topper. All the variants will come out with a seven-speed gearbox as standard, with an optional eight-speed automatic for the lazy speed freak.
Official unveiling should happen in the middle of next year.
