Detroit Electric has released a teaser of its SP:01, through a picture of the prototype being taken through the final stages of “dynamic testing”.
The irony is that the SP:01, rolling out of a company with obvious Detroit and American lineage, will be built in Europe.
Detroit Electric has been hush about the model and details about the SP:01 are expected in the coming weeks. It is likely to be based on the Lotus Exige, with a mid-mounted electric engine that produces 201 bhp (150 kW) and 166 lb-ft (225 Nm) of torque. That should give the car an amazing 0-100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
The car would start at $135,000, and Detroit Electric is only rolling out 999 units.
