You may have heard how the new Smart Dialer in Android 4.4 will automatically list your most frequently contacted contacts toward the top of the list, but there are a few more tricks up that KitKat sleeve. If you dial a number and you don’t already have that person in your contact list, your smartphone will look up the associated Google+ profile page.
Of course, this will only work if the associated Google+ page has “Discovery Mode” turned on, but what it means is that many of the related contact information can automatically load itself onto your phone. This includes the profile picture, for example, so you’re not stuck looking at that default silhouette. Then, if they call back, your caller ID will show their real profile picture too.
This is in line with some of the other changes that came along with KitKat. For example, when you receive a call from an unknown number, it’ll do a Google search to see if that number matches up with anyone. The connection to Google+ is the next logical step and they hope to have this feature show up via an update in early 2014. Does this make Google+ relevant yet?
