I guess now that the Palm Pre smartphone is out there in the real world for real people to use, there is a diminishing interest in its immediate predecessor. In order to re-spark a little more interest in the smartphone that really isn’t all that old, the official Palm Store is now selling a fully unlocked version of the Palm Treo Pro for jsut $399.
The Palm Treo Pro, like the Pre, has a QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen keyboard, but it comes powered by way of Windows Mobile 6.1, rather than the shiny and new webOS that lies beneath the Palm Pre.
In case you didn’t catch it the first couple of times around, the Palm Treo Pro has a 320×320 touchscreen, 400MHz processor, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 2.0 megapixel camera. I thought it was one of the better WM smartphones on the market.
From the Palm Store, you still have the option of buying the Treo Pro for $199 on contract with either Alltel or Sprint, but it may be better to avoid service agreements and take the unlocked GSM model for $399 instead. It’ll do quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA.
