Are you a big fan of what netbooks have to offer to the world, but you’re sorely disappointed by how long they last without being tethered to the wall. MSI feels your pain and they’re coming to the rescue.
While the Asus Eee PC 1000HE has a claimed battery life of 9.5 hours on a full charge, a newly reworked MSI Wind U100 bumps its figure up to an astounding 12 hours of battery life. In effect, you can do your mobile computing all day without having to search for a wall outlet.
Not surprisingly, this 12-hour claim comes with quite a few caveats. First, the Asus Eee PC 1000HE comes with a six-cell battery, whereas the power-touting MSI Wind U100 utilizes a nine-cell battery. This will add a little bit of extra bulk and weight, though it’s still much more portable than a 15-inch laptop. Also, to achieve the 12 hours of life, you’ll probably need to dim the screen, dial down the performance, and keep your tasks to a minimum.
Taking a look at the rest of the spec sheet, you’ll find a 10-inch LED backlit display, Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 160GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, Wi-Fi, webcam, and Windows XP Home. Find it through NCIX for $449.99, plus $4.99 for express shipping.
