Aside from copy-and-paste, one of the most notable omissions from the Apple iPhone is some remnant of a Today screen. It would certainly be helpful to have “at a glance” access to things like upcoming appointments, pending tasks, and other useful information. Thankfully, the developer community came up with a solution to this problem. And then Apple thwarted it with a firmware update.
When the iPhone 2.2 firmware came along, IntelliScreen-using iPhone owners were left without their Today screens. That speed bump has now been overcome, because IntelliScreen has been updated to work with the latest iPhone firmware. Just as before, you’ll need to have a jailbroken iPhone for this application to work.
The new version of IntelliScreen (2.32) fully supports iPhone 2.2, but it has also been updated to include support for NemusSync, a popular tool used for Google Calendar synchronization. Along with this, the developers have ironed out some of the kinks and bugs, making IntelliScreen more stable than ever.
That’s the good news. The bad news, if you can call it that, is that IntelliScreen is still not free, so you’ll need to fork out a little bit of cash to gain the functionality of a Today screen. That said, it’s totally worth it and I don’t understand why Cupertino didn’t include something similar in the first place. Windows Mobile, Symbian, and BlackBerry phones all have Today screens.
You can find IntelliScreen 2.32 through Cydia or Installer. Here’s the product page.
