The trouble with stock photography is that when you purchase the rights to using a particular picture, this doesn’t prevent someone else from buying the same picture and using it themselves. This is exactly what happened with MSI and Asus, because both firms have decided to use the same smiling boy in an orange beanie for promotional pics for their respective subnotebooks.
As you can quite plainly see from the side-by-side comparison shown here, both the Asus Eee PC (left) and the MSI Wind (right) have been PhotoShopped into the same stock photo. It’s not only the same boy, because you’ll notice that the kid in the background is the same, as are the windows, their clothing, and every element in the photo with the exception of the two subnotebooks.
That’s got to be incredibly awkward. With firms the size of MSI and Asus, you would think that they would arrange for their own photoshoots… or at least purchase exclusive rights to the pictures they use.
UPDATE: It turns out the original Getty Images picture featured an iBook… that was then chopped out by Asus and MSI.
