A monumental partnership has officially been forged between Chrysler and Nissan. Under this agreement, Nissan will build a small car for Chrysler and Chrysler will build a truck for Nissan. This capitalizes on the expertise of the respective companies.
There were early rumors that Nissan would be building a small car for Chrysler based on the Versa’s platform, but the car being built under this new partnership will not be based on Versa. It will, however, be built in Japan and then get wrapped in Chrysler sheet metal for a distinctly Chrysler look. The new car will go on sale in 2010.
On the other side of equation is a full-sized pickup truck that will be built at Chrysler’s Satillo Assembly Plant in Mexico. It will bear Nissan design cues, but will be largely based on Chrysler engineering. There has not yet been any indication as to whether this truck will use Chrysler’s hybrid drivetrain.
