We already knew that Asus was going to start selling their Eee PC subnotebook computer with Windows XP pre-installed, but we didn’t know how much the Microsoft tax was going to be. As it turns, it’s zero. Hopping on over to the Best Buy website, you’ll find that the 4GB Eee PC with Windows XP is the same price as its Linux counterpart.

Yes, I realize that the photo provided is showing us the Linux operating system, but if you read down the specs, it explicitly mentions Windows XP Home Edition. The other caveat about the launch of the XP-powered Asus Eee PC is that you are not able to enjoy the full complement of color options, getting restricted only to the black and white models.

The Windows XP Home Edition-powered Asus Eee PC is seemingly available now for $399.99. I wonder if there will be a slight price drop before the release of the 8.9-inch version…
