In case you didn’t know already, this is kind of what Microsoft does. While talks are still underway regarding a possible purchase of Yahoo!, Bill Gates and the rest of the Redmond crew are also reportedly talking about buying Danger Inc., makers of the popular Danger OS found on T-Mobile Sidekick devices. Should this purchase go through, we might be looking at Windows Mobile-powered Sidekicks, although I hope that MS keeps the Danger OS around for SK fans.
By having Microsoft on board, Danger would then be able to “concentrate on the software and integrating new features like 3G, GPS, and WiFi.” Microsoft would be responsible for the backend system, so this would certainly help SK users in terms of service reliability. With that much money, Microsoft should be able to limit, if not eliminate the outages that have plagued Sidekickers for years.
“The addition of Danger serves as a perfect complement to our existing software and services,” said Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. “And [it] also strengthens our dedication to improving mobile experiences centered around individuals and what they like.”
