Although I am personally not a huge fan of the Volvo C30, there are many enthusiasts out there who feel it is a huge step in the right direction for the Swedish automaker. It’s hip, fun, and youth-oriented, helping to dispel the misconception that Volvo is old, safe, and boring.
One of the reasons why some people may be hesitant to buy a Volvo C30 is because it is a three-door hatchback and they want the extra versatility offered by a couple more doors. And Volvo just may be ready to provide the solution. Magnus Jonsson is the senior VP of R&D at Volvo and he told Automotive News that a five-door version of the C30 could be in the cards and it will probably be sold as the C50.
Given the current design of the C30, stretching out the wheelbase or the body might make for a rather strange appearance, even if it is to accommodate a couple of extra doors. Jonsson agrees that a five-door “would be less exciting from a design perspective.”
