When you see the letter R tossed onto a Volkswagen vehicle, you know that you’re getting a substantial performance upgrade. This can be experienced in the compact R32, for example, which is an upgraded version of the VW Rabbit. But what if you want something bigger?
Well, here is the Volkswagen Touareg R50, a beefier, faster, and more substantial version of the garden variety Touareg SUV. The German automaker has “tweaked” the ECU to coax out a few more horses, developing 350hp at 3,500 rpm and 627 lbs-ft. of torque at 2,000rpm from the 5.0L twin-turbo V10 TDI engine. The horsepower count is impressive, but check out that torque! That’ll get you going in a hurry. In fact, despite its girth, the Touareg R50 can do the 0-62mph run in just 6.7 seconds before topping out at 146mph.
Other upgrades include 21-inch rims, 295mm-wide tires, blue-painted brake calipers, a revised bumper, flared wheel arches, new side skirts, Nappa leather interior, and the R50 logo featured throughout. Look for the Volkswagen Touareg R50 to go on sale next month with prices starting at 88,260 Euros.
