According to the official press release, the Nikon D3 digital SLR is the fastest ever, boasting the “fastest start up time, shortest viewfinder blackout time, and shortest shutter lag.” Everything is rushing along like Speedy Gonzalez, making it perfect for sport photographers, celebrity paparazzi, and anyone else who doesn’t have time to wait for anything.
As Nikon’s new flagship DSLR, the D3 comes equipped with a 12.1 megapixel FX format (full frame) CMOS sensor, a 3-inch VGA viewfinder with 170-degree viewing angle, live view, a 51-point autofocus system with 15 cross-type AF points, and a ISO range of 200-6400. If you hit up the Hi 2 Mode, you can achieve the equivalent of ISO 25,600. Masterful. Simply masterful.
If you’re a machine gun picture-taker, you’ll be glad to hear that the D3 can do 9fps burst in FX and 11fps in DX. There are dual CF card slots, so you can continue to take pictures while swapping cards (assuming you’re that much of a multitasking genius). The price for the body only has been set at $4999, with an expected shipping date in November.
