Danish Study: No Connection Between Cell Phones and Cancer

I think this is going to be one of those ongoing debates that will never get a solid answer one way or the other. The latest study coming out of Denmark states that “cell phone usage does not lead to cancer.” They hauled together 420,000 people and gathered all sorts of data on cell phone usage. Among this group were 52,000 Danes who had been using cell phones for 10 years or more. Some of these folks have been “users” for about 21 years.

Comparing this data against the records of the Danish Cancer Registry, they concluded that “cell phone callers are no more likely than anyone else to suffer a range of cancer types.” They found no definitive link between the two.

Only 14,249 cancers were diagnosed among the 420,000 people involved in the study. Based on national cancer rates, they were predicting a number closer to 15,001. We shouldn’t conclude that cell phones reduce the risk of cancer, but based on this study, there isn’t any evidence to suggest that cell phones cause cancer either.
