Samsung is on the fence in this next-gen DVD thing. The venerable electronics manufacturer will later this year release the BD-UP5000 dual-format player, one that can accommodate both Blu-ray and HD DVD.
LG started this movement with the player it unveiled at CES, but Samsung’s entry is notable because it until now has not addressed the HD DVD question, throwing in its lot with just Blu-ray.
Warner Brothers is also on the fence but in a different way. The multimedia giant now makes a dual-format disc. It’s the same idea but a different implementation. Both suggest that the war might be over by default.
