Motorola Slumps, LG and Samsung Rise to the Occasion

I always take these kinds of reports with a little grain of salt, considering that Telecoms Korea usually pumps out posts that exclaim the continuing success of Korean manufacturers while discounting any sort of success that companies based in other countries may be experiencing. Even so, it is interesting to note that the Motorola KRZR hasn’t done nearly as well for the company as the RAZR that preceded it, giving room for LG and Samsung to snatch up some much needed market share.

According to this report by TK, “Samsung’s operating profit ratio in the first quarter is expected to improve to double digits” and “LG is also projected to post at least 3 percent or up to 5 percent of operating profit ratio in the first three months of this year.” The “experts” cited in this report say that the growth being experienced by Samsung and LG is “mainly because of Motorola’s slowdown in North America.”

To continue their growth, Samsung is encouraged to pursue designs beyond “slim and high tech”, whereas LG should be “more responsive to the changes in smart phone market” and not just rely on the allure of the Chocolate phone.
