If you’re looking for a CD slot on the Alpine iDA-X001, you won’t find one. Instead, there is a single built-in audio source that links up to your iPod and displays that familiar interface on its 320 x 240 pixel color TFT display. Sure, you can still hop on over to the regular AM and FM airwaves, but when you’ve got full access to your iPod library, why would you need to? After all, the iDA-X001 comes rocking a “Made for iPod” seal to really drive the point home.
Connection is done via USB rather than through an adapter, so you are getting access to fully unfiltered music. This also means that you get “faster data transfers and full digital audio using a 24-bit Burr Brown DAC.” The built-in amp fires out 18 watts x 4. In addition to Apple’s portable music offering, this Alpine player will also gladly access XM, Sirius, and HD radio receivers. There’s Bluetooth on board as well.
The Alpine iDA-X001 “Made for iPod” car stereo will start shipping in April with an estimated MSRP of $450.
