There are plenty of portable hard drives out there, most of which require you to drag and drop whatever you need to back up on your own. Then there are those that offer a one-touch solution, automating the whole save-my-data process. Polaroid has taken the photo backup business to a whole new level by offering the ClickFree Media Backup portable hard drive, which as its name implies, requires no intervention on your part whatsoever. You don’t need to install any software or click any “OK” confirmation boxes. Instead, the self-installing firmware scours your computer for every last picture file you have, regardless of where you have it stored, ans proceeds to copy it onto its own 40GB spinner.

If you really feel the need to have just a touch of control over what this drive — designed clearly with technophobes in mind — backs up, there is an options menu where you can “configure what to not back up, or to select the photos the software found and order prints online, create photo CDs, and email them to friends with simple shortcuts.”

Look for the Polaroid CGA-02540 ClickFree Media Backup portable hard drive to start shipping in the next 4-6 weeks with an MSRP of $120.
