Maybe this was the real reason that Amazon decided to pull the price off their website. It turns out that the budget-minded Palm Treo 680 is going to be delayed due to a “manufacturing error.” This is no small mistake either, as some goof in the assembly line forgot to connect the internal microphone. So, if you were to receive one of these lovely entry level packages, you’d be able to do your PIM stuff and listen to the person on the line, but they wouldn’t hear a word you’re saying.
They have reportedly sent 144,000 Palm Treo 680s back for repair. At least they didn’t have a massive recall after the fact, especially considering how Cingular might be giving these things away for free.
