Nissan is looking towards new technology to reduce accidents caused by careless drivers. In Japan there are already infrared sensors hanging from poles by the streets to send traffic information to car navigation systems. The Nissan system uses the information from those sensors to alert drivers of upcoming potential problems. When a danger is impending, the system will sound a beep and then will follow up with a specific warning from an electronic voice. In a demonstration, for example, the voice said ‘A car is coming from the left.’
