With all Motorola comparisons aside, the Pantech C120 announced by Cingular back in February, has finally made the end of the list on the pre-paid handsets rack. Only 8 months later, Cingular has decided to target a different crowd with the C120. The press release sent to our mailbox last night, reminded me that the little kiddies are back in school and there is an increasing need to keep the young ones connected “to help ensure their safety and accessibility.” I’m assuming that your child won’t be chatting up a storm while sitting at his or her desk at school, so a prepaid option may be best. Cingular is giving you that option by adding the new Pantech C120 Go Phone to their collection.
This handset is said to provide “speedy and reliable family communication”, while at the same time, helping the kids say hip and “trendy” with all the latest features, like mobile instant messaging, multimedia messaging, and picture taking. Too bad it’s only got a VGA camera. You won’t find too many advanced goodies here: no music player, no MP3 ringtones, no mobile TV, or anything of that sort.
What it does provide is WAP 2.0 / JAVA 2.0, polyphonic ringtones, and a built-in speakerphone. The C120 is selling for $89.99 online. Personally, I’d go for the incredibly minute C300 instead.
