The rumors about a low end mobile Core 2 Duo processor from Intel have been around for a while, but word now is that they may be shipping by sometime next month. Some Taiwanese manufacturers are claiming that the mobile Core 2 Duo T5200 dual core processor is on the way, but there is some confusion over this claim because that processor does not show up on recent Intel mobile roadmaps.
The new chip would make sense. It will fill the gap between the Core 2 Duo T5200 and the older Core Duo offerings. It would be a direct competitor for AMD’s entry level Turion 64 X2 chips. If this chip does materialize it is expected that it would be followed by the E4300, targeted at desktop use, early next year. There was an E4200 chip that was due in the last quarter of this year, but there has been no word about it and this new processor would indicate that that chip may not arrive at all.
