Ever had the urge to fling your mobile phone in the air? If you’re good at it, you could even win a prize.
The Mobile Phone Throwing World Championship took place recently in — naturally — Finland, home of Nokia. And, not surprisingly, a Nokia was the winning toss.
The winner was even a Finn. Lassi Etelatalo threw his Nokia phone 89 meters. (For those who prefer non-metric measurements, that’s slightly less than 292 feet.) Amusingly, Etelatalo told Reuters that he had practiced by throwing the javelin, not the mobile phone.
The seventh annual event took place in Savonlinna, Finland. More than 100 people took part, from as far away as Canada. Organizers, including founder Christine Lund, insist that the competition is a fun yet helpful way to recycle old mobile phones. You didn’t think they’d throw current models, now did you?
