The mobile service operator arena is one that is getting more competitive by the minute. Verizon is trying to draw you in with their North American exclusivity deal on the LG Chocolate, and Rogers Wireless keeps reminding you how music-centric their cell phones are, but Telus Mobility has taken a different approach with their new “Promises” campaign to spoil their customers, so to speak. The campaign is three-pronged:
First, they have “our great network promise”, saying that they guarantee you will not drop a call. They’re claiming that their cellular coverage is so good, that if you drop even 1% of your calls, they will credit your account (presumably either with airtime or monetary credit).
Second, “our new phone promise” gives you a brand new cell phone, free of charge, at least every three years. Stay on contract with them, renew every three years, and they’ll give you a new phone. Of course, the free handset will be far from top-of-the-line. Business users can get credit toward a new BlackBerry or similar device every two years.
Third, should you have to ring up their call centre for any reason, they have “our fast client service promise.” No more listening to elevator music for hours on end as you wait for a service rep. If you have to wait for more than five minutes, they’ll credit your account for 5 airtime minutes.
