It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s Super Pac-Man. That lovable little yellow dude is back in all his ghost chomping super glory on your Sprint mobile phone.
The rebirth of the classic arcade game was announced at E3 when a costumed Super Pac-Man appeared with socialite and sign of the apocalypse, Nicole Richie. Pac-Man first appeared in 1980 (a year before Nicole Richie was even born), and Super Pac-Man was released in 1982. Namco is releasing the mobile version, as they did the originals. They will be giving away a Volkswagen Beetle decked out in Pac-Man style to celebrate the occasion.
Super Pac-Man was one of the most popular arcade games ever. Namco is clearly counting on nostalgia and retro-chic to sell the game, as they have wisely resisted updating the game or changing it by taking advantage of new technology. Super Pac-Man on your phone will be just like in the arcade, only smaller.
