This ain’t your grandma’s standard point-and-shoot camera, nor is it for powerful professionals seeking an exceptional solution. The Ricoh Caplio 500G sits somewhere in between and seems best suited for the rugged outdoorsman or the pro-sumer on the go.
This camera’s main appeal is that it can take a licking and keep on ticking, as it were. Yes, this picture taker is shock and water resistant, as well as being completely dust-proof. While it probably won’t survive a fall off of a 20 storey building, they are reporting that it can handle a regular fall of about three feet without a hitch.
The 8 megapixel sensor will be plenty for most of your shots, and you’ll be able to get a lot of the scenery in those pictures thanks to the wide angle lens that is capable of 3x optical zoom.
No word on pricing, but if the 3.2 megapixel 400G before is any indication ($370), we should be expecting the 500G to have a heftier price tag as well.
