If you are going to get sideswiped, you want to do it in a Kia Sedona or a Subaru Impreza. Those two vehicles received the highest grades in crash safety tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. They were so impressed with the Sedona, in fact, that they called it the best minivan that they have tested yet. That could be a huge boost for a company that is rising from the fringes of public attention into a legitimate choice for new car buyers.
Since it was a side impact test, it comes as no surprise that the Institute found that side impact airbags are a good thing. Minivans from both GM and DaimlerChrysler and the Toyota Prius performed badly in their standard form because they don’t come with side airbags. When the optional side airbags were considered, though, the cars did much better. The Prius moved all the way up into the highest rating level.
