Here’s a nifty utility for your Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone. WM5torage lets you use the flash memory in your phone as a logical USB flash drive. It will work with a fully application-unlocked Windows Mobile smartphone and has been tested with several, including the HTC Tornado, i-mate SP5, and the 02 XDA Atom. It provides some extra functionality and capabilities that make sense for a phone. So much sense really, that it seems strange that you have to add it as an extra utility.
There are some imperfections with the program as it exists. First, it is limited to the Windows Mobile 5.0 phones, only. That knocks lots of us out of the picture. More significantly, though, it only works with USB 1.0. Certainly not cutting edge on that front. WM5torage is much like the Softick Card Export program that is available for Palm-based devices. It won’t turn your phone into a fast drive, but you can’t complain about what is free.
