Every electronics company in the world is making portable media players with video capabilities, it seems. Few of them, though, are as nice as this one. The Tavi Portable Multimedia Center has a 20GB HDD, but that’s not what has people drooling. The trick that impresses is that it can support HD video output. That’s high definition, and it can do 480p, 720p or 1080p. It supports optical audio output for 5.1 channel AC3 as well.
HD output will certainly impress, but it won’t be quite the same on the 320 x 240 screen. It will still look good, though. It supports all the formats of audio you would expect and supports a decent if not overwhelming audio bitrate of 128kbps. The lithium ion battery will offer 10.5 hours of music or 5.5 hours of video on a single charge. It measures a fairly compact 3.6” x 3.2” x .97” and weighs 8.6 ounces.
You can have your own Tavi 20GB PMP for about $500. Strangely, it will be available from Wal-Mart.
