Though people were obviously excited by yesterday’s announcement of the MacBook Pro, many were left scrambling because of Apple’s decision to include just an ExpressCard/34 card slot. It wasn’t surprising, given Apple’s appetite for pushing forward with new technology. The ExpressCard is smaller and faster than a PC card. In the short term, though, EV-DO users are left out in the cold.
The one thing you can guarantee is that their will be a ton of new cards on the market in the next few months to fill the whole that exists in the new standard. It will be exciting to see what comes out. One of the first to come along is the ExpressCard/34 media reader unveiled today by Y-E Data, the Japanese card reader manufacturer. It is a 5-in-1 card reader, supporting xD, SD, MS, MS-PRO and MMC. Details are scarce at this time, but more will surely come soon.
