D-Link launches adapter for Skype

On Tuesday D-Link, one of the global leaders in end-to-end networking solutions, along with Skype, the global Internet communications company, announced the launch of D-Link Skype USB phone adapter. The new adapter from D-Link named DPH-50U will allow users to take advantage of Skype’s free calling features on their existing corded or cordless telephone.

This latest innovation from D-Link in the field of internet telephony will be on display at D-Link’s as well as the Skype (eBay) booth during CES 2006 to be held from Jan. 5-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas.

The adapter will allow users to pick up regular phone calls as well as the Skype calls from one single phone. The transition from picking up a traditional call and one from Skype is just like a typical call waiting feature, further it can also connect conference calls between a traditional line and Skype. For indicating incoming calls from Skype the DPH-50U is equipped with a lighted display.

Speaking on the occasion Keith Karlsen, executive vice president, D-Link, said “At D-Link, we know that the digital home is all about integration and ease-of-use, by extending Skype to be accessible through traditional phones, we can make the benefits of Skype even easier to experience.”
