The South Korean head quartered LG Electronics MobileComm (LG Mobile Phones) has stepped up to the number 2 position for US mobile phones shipped in Q3 of 2006. LG sold 7.8 million handsets across the US to take its market share to 19.6%. This was revealed in the Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker published by research firm IDC.
Not resting on its laurels of attaining the number 2 position in terms of mobile phones shipped, it also attained the number 1 position globally as well as in the US for selling the highest number of CDMA phones in the same quarter. Now LG has a market share of 24.3%. In the report IDC also stated that since Q4 of 2003, LG has shipped more CDMA handsets compared to any other manufacturer.
LG is also posting impressive growth in the GSM hand set market since its launch over 2 years ago. They secured fourth position with a 10.3% increase in the 3rd quarter of 2005.

Its line of popular GSM handsets includes models such as the EDGE-capable A7110 and CE500, and the stylish and functional L1400i and C1300i.
