Sprint Nextel Corp. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against three companies – Vonage Holdings Corp., Voiceglo Holdings Inc. and theglobe.com. The case has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas and has been moved by a subsidiary of Sprint Nextel.
In the lawsuit, Sprint Nextel has charged of intentionally violating seven patent rights related with voice over technology developed by it. Going by the basic premise of patent protection norms, a series of innovations that enable the processing and delivery of packetized voice and data communications, including Voice over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) communications fall under the purview of patent rights.
In the lawsuit, Sprint Nextel has demanded an immediate injunction to debar these companies to make use of Sprint Nextel’s technology and the violation of its patent rights. In the lawsuit, Sprint Nextel has also put up the demand of adequate monetary compensation for the charged companies’ unauthorized use of its patented technology. No particular sum, however, has been specified in the lawsuit.
