It was first an idea, then a plan, now it’s reality. Calypso Wireless‘ C1250i dual mode Wi-Fi/GSM-GPRS VoIP cellular phone will be put into action once tests are complete. Using the Cisco Aironet Access Point and the patented Calypso Wireless ASNAP technology, mobile users will be able to switch back and forth between cellular networks such as GSM or CDMA, and Wi-Fi wireless 802.11 standard networks.
The C1250i has a browser that can be used both inside and outside a WLAN giving users uninterupted access to the Internet. A special application allows instant messaging between C1250i handsets on a wireless LANs. Battery life for the handset is estimated at around 4 hours for VoIP calls. It will ship with headphones (mini stereo jack), a cradle with USB ActiveSync Cable and AC adapter.
It is unknown when the C1250i will actually be on the street, but we could assume later this year if all the tests go as expected.
