Sony Ericsson has announced a new phone today that they are touting as their new “fashionable clamshell phone”. The quad-band Z520a features a sleek looking clamshell design that sort of looks like the Motorola PEBL except with a large hinge and hook on the back.
The phone will house two LCD’s; one on the outside of the camera at 1-inch (101×80 pixels) 4K STN color screen and a 1.8-inch (128 x 160 pixel) 65K color TFT screen on the inside.
The Z520a has a bunch of features packed into its small shell; Bluetooth, special light effects, a VGA camera, and 16MB of built-in memory. The special lighting can be assigned to different callers, in turn making the perimeter of the phone flash different patterns and when a call is received. The VGA camera features 5x digital zoom.
As for the media features of the phone, you will be able to view MPEG4 and 3GPP media, listen to either MP3 or ACC music, and play 3D Java based games.
Sony also has exchangeable covers for the Z520a including Pale Blue, Sandy Grey, Ceramic White, Espresso Brown, Peach, Mint, Pale Yellow and Pale Pink.
The Z520a will be available in North America in the third quarter of 2005.
