Rogers Wireless and Nokia maximize text messaging for youth with the Nokia 6820 wireless phone

As text messaging continues to grow in popularity, Nokia Canada and Rogers Wireless today announced the availability of the Nokia 6820 wireless phone. Designed for the youth market where text messaging is a part of daily life, the 6820 messaging phone is equipped with a full alpha-numeric folding keyboard, picture messaging and Bluetooth connectivity – sure to make any youth the talk of the town. The tri-band (850/1800/1900MHz) Nokia 6820 operates exclusively in Canada on the Rogers Wireless GSM/GPRS/EDGE network, the largest integrated wireless voice and data network in Canada, providing users with global roaming capabilities in many countries around the world.

The second offering in Nokia’s messenger device family, the 6820 offers a host of features geared towards youth users. Complete with a unique rotating colour display, fold-out, full QWERTY keyboard and a wider keypad to allow for easy text message entries, the Nokia 6820 messaging phone is the must-have mobile phone for the New Year. In addition to these features, the Nokia 6820 also comes with an integrated camera for quick picture taking and sharing with friends. As well, it features numerous messaging options that go beyond text and include Multi-media, Instant messaging and Email, giving youth a truly enhanced wireless experience.

“Almost two-million text messages are sent each day in Canada,” said Grace Belmonte, Director of Marketing, Nokia Canada. “Youth make up a significant proportion of that number so we really wanted to create the type of all-in-one device that lets them do just what they want. From texting each other to sending emails and video to their friends, the Nokia 6820 brings a wide range of features all to the palm of their hand.”

The Nokia 6820 also comes with an email capability and supports XHTML browsing for online access. Customers can also download new applications with the phone’s Java(TM) Technology support. The 6820 messaging phone also offers speakerphone and voice recorder capabilities, as well as rich PIM functionality including contacts, calendar and to-do list, making it easy to keep track of important homework assignments or outings with friends. Enhanced features on the Nokia 6820 messaging phone include a full-colour display and 5- way scroll.

“Rogers Wireless is pleased to offer the Nokia 6820 as one of the latest cool ways for our customers to keep in touch with the people that matter most,” said Raj Doshi, Vice President, Product and Hardware Management, Rogers Wireless. “Our youth and young adult customers have enthusiastically embraced text messaging as a primary mode of communication, and Rogers Wireless is committed to offering cutting edge devices and services that enhance their text messaging experience.”
