Siemens Installs WAP Gateway in China

China Mobile has awarded Siemens mobile the contract to set up the world’s second-largest WAP installation in China utilizing “Mobile Smart Proxy“. In future more than 100 million mobile phone users will be able to use mobile internet applications via Mobile Smart Proxy.

Mobile Smart Proxy 3.0 allows China Mobile’s mobile subscribers to securely access information on the internet, download images, ring tones, and Java applications, or use online games via their mobile phones. The system capacity of the Siemens WAP gateway enables more than 2400 transactions per second – in comparison, the worldwide average is less than 100 transactions per second. The capacity of the Siemens solution can also be upgraded at any time. Moreover, China Mobile can charge the data content for prepaid customers flexibly and in real time. Both features are important prerequisites for further increasing the use and attractiveness of the mobile data services.

“We have been providing China Mobile with innovative solutions for the mobile network for many years. We will also continue in the future to cooperate closely with the mobile operator, in order to meet the growing communication requirements in this region”, said Christoph Caselitz, head of the Networks Division at Siemens mobile. Through this contract, Siemens mobile has reinforced its position as China Mobile’s largest WAP gateway supplier.
