Sony Ericsson announces A1301S mobile phone with rotating “MOTION EYE” integrated camera

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications today announced the shipment of the A1301S to KDDI and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company. This is the Industry’s first mobile phone with 290 degree rotating “MOTION EYE” integrated camera with photo light. The A1301S is the first Sony Ericsson phone with integrated 310K-pixel camera enabling still or moving image capture and editing functionality. The dual changeable front and back panels offer users the ultimate in personalization and a total visual entertainment experience.

The A1301S supports CDMA2000 1x and in addition to being able to record conventional size movies (96 x 80 dots), it can also record larger size movies (128x 96). There is a ’’MOTION EYE” integrated camera and photo light built into the hinge section of the clam-shell shaped phone which enables it to rotate approx. 290 degrees. This allows the user to properly check the image in the LCD screen display while taking a photo, including self-portraits. For VGA size still image capture, the A1301S has three times digital zoom (3 stages). For mobile phone-size still image capture, it uses a large eight times digital zoom (4 stages) and when capturing moving images it uses a four times digital zoom (3 stages).

With ‘Real Time Encoding’ image management, it is possible to save both still and moving images immediately and then send them as mail attachments, ensuring a simple operation mechanism for users. In addition a ‘Photo Mixer’ function enables music and text to be added simply to a captured image to create an original animation. These can be attached to mails and sent as an original greeting animation or as an image greeting with music.

‘Smooth Viewer’ function enables the camera to capture objects that are moving in a quick and natural way. It is possible to monitor images at speeds of up to 30 frames per second without creating a movement shadow on still photos. This helps users capturing their desired photo opportunity.

The A1301S supports the new au-service ’’Chaku-Uta’’ which uses artist’s natural voices as ringer tones and wake-up alarm calls. Users can enjoy downloading moving images using ezmovie. The phone also features a preset movie trailer taken from the movie “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” by Sony Pictures Entertainment. All these added features can be enjoyed from the moment the user purchases the phone.

Further developing the popular concept of earlier Sony Ericsson phones, the A1301S features dual front and back changeable panels. The phone, which comes in three basic colours, comes with a pack of three panel variations for each phone colour. Additional panels are available separately as optional accessories.
