Samsonite Launches First Intelligent BlueTooth Business Case


Samsonite, world-wide market leader in luggage, launched today the 625 Series Hardlite ICT product range, presenting the first business case with Bluetooth technology.

Bluetooth wireless technology is a world-wide specification for a small-form factor, lowcost radio solution that provides links between mobile computers, mobile phones other portable handheld devices and connectivity to the Internet. From today it also allows communication and exchange of information with a Samsonite Hardlite business case. Installation of this technology enables unrivalled advantages for the traveller:

· Tracking: the Bluetooth chip in the Hardlite case can be used as a carrier of vital information, which is necessary for travel (e.g. flight information, connections).

· Anti-theft: the built-in technology will notify the owner if the case is being removed.

· Security: the chip can contain personal data that will identify the owner of the product.

· Exchange of information: the product communicates with the owner, and vice versa. Through this revolutionary innovation, Samsonite contributes to a better and more efficient travel environment, focusing on security and user friendliness. Again, Samsonite leads the way in a new exciting era in the history of luggage: that of using technology in the luggage business and bringing useful and effective travel solutions to the market.

The Bluetooth application has been developed in close co-operation with rfi mobile technologies AG, Samsonite’s value-added partner in this project and also distributor of ICT cases and notebook accessories. Hardlite ICT will be presented at the CeBIT Fair in the Lintec/rfi Booth in Hall 2, ref. AO2.

The Hardlite ICT business case and configuration shown in Hannover are fully operational. Both products and Bluetooth technology will be brought to market in the coming year.

Hardlite business cases without the Bluetooth technology will be available in stores throughout Europe from April 2002.
