Enteos and PurpleLabs Team Up for Wireless Email SmartPhone

Enteos signs a manufacturing license agreement with Purple Labs for a wireless email smartphone (Chambery (France), Trieste (Italy), March 12th 2002), Enteos srl, Italy, has recently signed a manufacturing license agreement with Purple Labs SA of France to license Purple Labs smartphone design for 2.5G. Enteos will be the first Italian manufacturer of Wireless Smartphone. This deal validates the business model of Purple Labs and confirms their lead in smartphone technology licensing.

“201C;The launch of the Enteos i-GO 500 Smartphone is concrete proof of the significant change in the wireless industry,” states Dennis O’Donovan, CEO of Purple Labs. “Our goal is to offer complete turnkey Wireless Devices from market analysis and product definition to development, integration and test, right through to support for mass production. This enables those of our customers with the expertise in the remaining parts of the value chain such as manufacturing, logistics, branding and sales to enter a market that would have otherwise be closed without the necessary R&D, integration and validation resources. It allows innovative companies such as Enteos to offer state of the art products, with limited and predictable investment in R&D, reducing the risk to an absolute minimum. We are pleased to being working with Enteos. This will allow us to introduce our technology to the Italian market, the most challenging, innovative and demanding in the world.”

“Enteos will be launched on the market using wireless telecommunication technologies, new products and innovative services. “i-GO500′ represents the first step on our roadmap”, declares Massimo Zanzi, President of Enteos and previous founder of Telital (now: Telit). “By bringing together our extensive experience in the wireless communication market with Purple Labs products, our projects receive a welcome boost. In gaining access to Purple Labs state of the art technologies, we can focus on the look and feel, manufacturing and channels of sale activities. We believe that our i-GO500 will change the way people communicate with each other by combining the GPRS data capabilities with wireless e-mail and EMS. We are glad to be able to work with Purple Labs because it secures a roadmap to the wireless Multimedia devices. ”

By licensing the Purple Labs smartphone design, manufacturers are able to concentrate on product differentiation such as applications, industrial design, distribution and branding. Enteos is a perfect example of this: while initially adopting the Purplelabs industrial design, they are going to upgrade their product with a more appealing and innovative version of their own industrial design along with their look and feel, built around the Purple Labs platform. The i-GO500 offers a large touch screen, exhaustive PIM and wireless e-mail functionalities with GPRS, EMS capabilities.

The manufacturing license includes bill of materials, component specifications, PCB design and the complete software from Operating System to Man-Machine Interface, which can then be customised to the manufacturer’s needs to offer a unique look and feel. The package includes a product design, which has been fully tested and approved according to the GSM specification; the product has been field-tested and debugged for volume manufacturing. The i-GO500 will be launched on the Italian market in Spring 2002.
