The Canon XL1 camcorder revolutionized video and filmmaking with its digital format, interchangeable lens system and 3 CCD image sensors with pixel shift technology that provides superior image quality. Now, Canon U.S.A. is championing the ongoing evolution of digital video and raising the technology to the next professional level by maintaining all the features found in the Canon XL1 while adding 27 new specifications, including improved picture quality and many new manual functions, in the new Canon XL1S.
The Canon XL1S, with its open architecture and modular design, allows users to build their ideal camcorder system by changing lenses, viewfinders and shoulder mounts. The Canon XL1S remains the only DV camcorder design that can be customized to the individual needs of the videographer and to specific shooting applications. Now, users are able to access the Canon XL1S picture set-up controls to customize the mood and tone of the video image prior to recording.
Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon, Inc. , also is introducing two new lenses (16x electronic and 16x mechanical) and a shoulder mount microphone adapter that includes four audio inputs. The new lenses and microphone adapter, along with all other existing accessories, can be used on the new Canon XL1S and the original Canon XL1.
Since introducing the first 3-chip (CCD – charged couple device) camcorder for the videography market in 1998, Canon has listened to the requests and requirements of cinematographers, directors of photography and videographers to create a new professional digital camcorder that satisfies the high demands of broadcast television and filmmaking. The new Canon XL1S provides the best picture quality and performance among MiniDV camcorders. It has enhanced picture set-up controls that professionals prefer and need, and it uses a variety of interchangeable lenses — from extra wide angle to telephoto to super-telescopic — that exclusively deliver the right lens for any situation.
“The industry, which embraced the Canon XL1 upon its debut, has worked closely with us to create this new digital camcorder that will continue to change the technology of filmmaking,” said Yukiaki Hashimoto, vice president and general manager, Photographic Products Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “The new Canon XL1S is their camcorder, one that will be in high demand and will continue to change the way our movies, TV programs, newscasts and personal videos are created.”
