Handspring Debuts New Springboard Modules from Margi Systems and IDEO at Demo 2001

Today at Demo 2001, Handspring, Inc. showcased the newest Springboard modules from developers MARGI Systems, Inc. and IDEO’s Blocks Products Division. MARGI, a leading provider of multimedia products for mobile computing, introduced Presenter-to-Go, which allows people to transfer PowerPoint presentations so that they can be projected through the use of a Handspring Visor handheld computer. IDEO unveiled the eyemodule2, a full-color, full-VGA digital camera for the Handspring Visor. Handspring founder, chairman, and chief product officer, Jeff Hawkins will demonstrate both products tomorrow at Demo 2001, an annual conference that is one of the industry’s most important venues for showcasing new technology. The eyemodule2 is available immediately for $199.95, and Presenter-to-Go is scheduled to ship later this quarter for $299. Consumers will be able to purchase both products through www.palmgear.com.

“The eyemodule2 and Presenter-to-Go are both great innovations that really highlight the possibilities of the Springboard platform,” said Hawkins. “The eyemodule2 gives people a fun and easy way to capture high-quality images and even movies. Presenter-to-Go will be a valuable business tool for professionals that make frequent presentations who can now leave their laptops back at the office when they’re on the road.”

“Each year at Demo, we’re proud to introduce ground-breaking technologies that impact consumers’ lives and the ways that people conduct business,” said Jim Forbes, senior analyst with IDG Executive Forums and the co-producer of Demo 2001. “Handspring’s Springboard expansion slot has changed people’s expectations of handheld computers, as Handspring Visors are highly customizable and uniquely expandable to meet people’s particular needs. The newest Springboard modules, Presenter-to-Go and the eyemodule2, bring new possibilities and will serve immediate and practical needs in the business and consumer market places.”
